Testing

Smart Nutrimed uses a range of laboratories and tests depending on the needs of particular clients.  The aim is to use the latest, most reliable and scientifically validated testing services to provide patients with as much information as possible about their health status, potential underlying issues, and treatment progress.

DNA testing

Comprehensive DNA testing and analysis is available through Smart Nutrimed.

A saliva sample is sent to a testing facility.  Your DNA information is sequenced and analysed.  You are then provided with a personalised treatment plan that identifies dietary and supplemental interventions that may help improve your health.

DNA testing prices range from $360-$460 with the review appointments from $250 - $300 for the first hour.

Tests include genetics involved in:

  • Fat metabolism, metabolic syndrome, and weight management

  • Inflammation and oxidative stress

  • Vitamin and mineral status (iron, vit D, Bs etc)

  • MTHFR, Methylation and folate cycle metabolites

  • Caffeine and sodium metabolism

  • Celiac disease and intestinal issues

  • Lactose intolerance

  • Liver detoxification pathways

  • Diabetes and insulin resistance

  • Energy metabolism

  • APOE4 (associated with Alzheimer's) and dementia risk factors.

Genetic analysis can inform preventative health measures to help you:

  • Increase energy levels

  • Improve mental alertness and reduce 'brain fog'

  • Handle stress more effectively

  • Support your immune system

  • Optimise wellbeing

Nutrigenomics is a burgeoning area in the field of functional and nutritional medicine.  Genetic information may be particularly useful for those whose health issues are difficult to categorise and affect multiple body systems.

Our genes are just one of a number of contributing factors to our health status. Your DNA does not determine your future, but genetic tendencies or weaknesses can lead to particular disease states if ignored. Genes can be turned on and off  by environmental 'triggers'.  It is possible to alter problematic genetic expression by making changes to your environment, diet and lifestyle. Nutritional Medicine consultations focus on helping you make and maintain these beneficial changes.
